This chili is great for a cold january day
or when you have friends
over for a football game or to play cards.
Note that you can substitute meat for the smart
round or TVP, but we're veggies so what follows is the veggie
version.
1 lb Smart ground or
2 cups rehydrated textured vegetable protein
1 can of pinto beans
1 can kidney beans
1 can garbonzo beans
2 medium chopped tomatoes
2 cans of diced tomatoes and juice
1 can tomato paste
1 cup water
1 chopped green pepper
1 chopped yellow onion
3 tsp cumin
2 tsp curry powder
5 tsp chili powder
1 tsp red pepper flakes
fresh ground black pepper to taste
1 tsp brown sugar
Saute the onions, then add the chopped peppers
and tomatoes. Cook until
peppers are soft. Add half the cumin, curry, and chili powder
and some
pepper. Then add the smart ground or TVP and canned tomatoes.
Add all
other ingredients, except the 3 cans of beans. Simmer 25 minutes.
Then
add al the beans and simmer another 10 minutes.
